The only lake in the Lake District actually called a lake, is Bassenthwaite Lake. The rest are “waters”.
The small village of just 500 people is about a mile from the lake and a few miles from the A66. Bassenthwaite sits in the shadow of Skiddaw, one of England’s tallest mountains.

There is a single pub in the village. Keswick or Cockermouth are the closest large towns. There isn’t a shop in the village.
